Neti Pot or Nose Bidet?

Would you rather use a Neti Pot or a Nose Bidet?

Fortunately they are both the same thing! Oprah may have made the term "Nose Bidet" famous when she invited a member of her audience to the stage and invited her to try out the Nose Bidet with Dr. Oz.

Now the tricky thing is that people are having trouble finding the Nose Bidet because of spelling. Let's be honest, for most of us in North America, we are not users of bidets.

I found that there are lots of mispellings of the word bidet which can make it difficult for people to find what they are looking for. (hint, just call it a Neti Pot!)

  • nose bidae
  • nose bedae
  • nose biday
  • nose baday
  • nose beday

What ever you wish to call it, Neti Pot, Nose Bidet, or Nasal Irrigation System, I hope you find that it is helping you achieve the sinus health you have been looking for!

Saline Solution for Your Neti Pot

What is the best saline solution for your Neti Pot?

You have several options. You can use a premade solution or do it the old-fashioned way and make your own at home.

The basic solution is:

  • Approximately 1/2 cup/up to 8 ounces of lukewarm water
  • 1/4 teaspoon of NON-iodized salt

Make sure the salt is completely dissolved into the water.

You may find that in the beginning you want to reduce the amount of salt. Here is a little tip for making and using your saline solution: start with a small amount of salt, if it feels like it is "stinging" a bit in your nose, ADD more salt.

Your Neti Pot and Saline Solution is ready to use. Enjoy!

Why Should I Use a Neti Pot?

Can a Neti Pot really improve your sinus health? According to dedicated users of Neti Pots, thousands of years of use by practioners world wide, a wide array of scientific research, the answer is a resounding YES!

Do you suffer from allergies, congestion, colds and are sick and tired of feeling like you can never breathe? The solution may be a Neti Pot. Think about how you get sick. We breath in or absorb through our mucus membranes all those germs and viruses that make us sick. One warm cozy place they like to land is right in your nose, straight up the nasal passages.

Flushing out the bad stuff through nasal irrigation can possibly keep you healthier. Using a Neti Pot while you are sick may help rid your body of excess mucus, allow you to breathe easier and weather the illness a bit better.

Maybe you saw a segment on a little show called Oprah with the completely unabashed Dr. Oz promoting and then demonstrating the use of a Neti Pot with an audience member. As with so many things that Oprah does, this probably drove a huge amount of people to the stores, internet and local health food store in search of their own Neti Pot.

One great thing about the demonstration on Oprah’s show is that they had a person that had never used a Neti pot before try it before the studio audience. It showed just how easy it is and the fear that many people have of feeling a sensation of drowning was overcome. You aren’t pouring a gallon of water through your nose! Just a small amount of saline or salted water and you are allowing gravity to help flush it out of your nasal passages.

The next post will detail information on finding the right Neti Pot for yourself, the proper solution you need, whether to make your own or buy it, and using your Neti Pot for the first time.
